Party Ready

A First Aid Program for Secondary Schools

What Is Party Ready?

Do the students at your school know how to keep each other safe at parties and social gatherings? Our Party Ready first aid program can help.

Party Ready will equip those from Year 9 upwards with the tools and knowledge to help their mates if they are injured, unwell or in distress. From CPR to psychological first aid and substance overdose, Party Ready will help young people to be confident to de-escalate the immediate situation as well as help them to direct the person to an appropriate intervention.

The session was very well run and the presenters were well organised, engaging and knowledgeable. The topics covered were relevant for our students and there was a good mix of theory and practical tasks.

The Party Ready Program provides valuable information for young people regarding first aid, mental health, drug and alcohol and help seeking behaviours. It was a fun and interactive session and the students enjoyed learning in a hands-on practical setting. The presenters were highly engaging and compassionate to our students

School Curriculum

Party Ready supports the Health and Physical Education elements of the Victorian Curriculum for Year 9 & 10, particularly along the following focus areas:

Alcohol and other drugs (AD) addresses a range of drugs, including prescription drugs, bush and alternative medicines, energy drinks, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs and performance-enhancing drugs. The curriculum supports students to explore the impact drugs can have on individuals, families and communities.

Mental health and wellbeing (MH) addresses how mental health and wellbeing can be enhanced and strengthened at an individual and community level. The curriculum supports students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills to manage their own mental health and wellbeing and to support that of others.

Challenge and adventure activities (CA) addresses how individuals participate in a variety of physical activities designed to challenge them physiologically, behaviourally and socially in diverse contexts and environments.

Party Ready supports the aims of Health and Physical Education curriculum, enabling students to access, evaluate and synthesise information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation across their lifespan. It also helps them develop and use personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills and strategies to promote a sense of personal identity and wellbeing and to build and manage respectful relationships.

Program Details

The Party Ready program is designed to be delivered to 1 homeroom group (20-25 students) per day (approx. 5 hours spread across the day).

Currently we can deliver to up to 3 groups per day with 3 Trainers available. Therefore if you wish to book more than 75 students, please indicate this in the form below and select multiple date options to allow us to return over several days.

We will require:

  • 1 dedicated room for the day, carpeted and at least 10mx10m and with some clear space for CPR practicals in groups of 3-4 students
  • Access to a screen with working sound – e.g. TV or data projector and screen
  • Access to a whiteboard
  • A Teacher to be present for the entire duration of the program to support the Trainer and students who may require it

Students will complete activities and workbooks individually and in small groups and will break out into sessions for CPR and defibrillation.

Please be advised some of the content we will be addressing may be confronting for students, with topics around physical and mental first aid. Your support with the wellbeing of students who may need to leave the session is vital.

There is a small charge of $15 per student to cover the costs of the program in 2024, $17 in 2025. Currently due to a grant, we are pleased to be able to offer the program free to government secondary schools only. Available for 2024 only until the grant allocation is exhausted.

Please note this program is available in Victorian Secondary Schools Only (Government, Catholic and Independent)

The Party Ready workshop and presentation was extremely valuable for our young people. The presenters delivered the content in an engaging way and with nuance for our school context (alternative school setting). There was a mix of kinaesthetic tasks, as well as discussions and learning. Vital skills such as risk prevention and first aid were taught, and I think that all of our young people took something away from the session.

It was an incredibly informative and valuable experience. Myself and our students found the incursion to be comprehensive yet accessible, covering crucial topics such as first aid basics, responsible drinking practices, and how to stay safe in social settings. The instructors from St John Ambulance were not only highly knowledgeable but also engaging and approachable. They created a supportive environment where everyone felt comfortable asking questions and participating in discussions. Their real-life examples and practical demonstrations made the content relevant and easy to understand. What stood out to me the most was the emphasis on proactive measures and prevention. Learning about risk factors associated with parties and events, as well as practical tips on how to respond in emergency situations, left our students feeling more prepared and empowered. Overall, I highly recommend the Party Ready Incursion by St John Ambulance to any schools looking to enhance their students knowledge of safety practices during social gatherings. It's an invaluable resource that equips participants with life-saving skills and promotes a culture of responsibility and care.
