This course provides participants with the skills to manage common first aid situations that can arise in an electrical services industry environment. It is suitable for people employed as electricians and others employed in the electrical services industry.

This course requires students to have completed HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation within the previous 12 months.

This unit covers the provision of first aid in an electricity supply industry (ESI) environment. It includes the recognition and provision of an initial response where first aid is required in emergency situations by providing essential first aid using basic life support measures. The course topics include rescue from low voltage apparatus and hazards and risk management.

It is suitable for electricians and others working in an electrical services environment.

This course is taught by St John trainers with over 100 years of combined experience and backgrounds in Nursing, Education and Leadership. They are ready to share their experience and passion with you that creates confidence to perform first aid should you ever need to.

Course Outline

This course covers the following:

  • Infection control
  • Defibrillation awareness
  • Introduction to low voltage principles
  • Rescue from low voltage apparatus
  • Hazards and risk management
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Bites and stings

Statements of attainment

On successful completion of this course you will be issued a Certificate which is a statement of attainment in:

  • UETDRMP010 Provide first aid in an ESI environment

St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years.

Assessment is through a combination of practical first aid activities and a written test paper.

You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor

As a pre-requisite for this course, students must have completed HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation within the previous 12 months
