Choose from our suite of courses that will help you learn skills and strategies to reduce risk and save lives
Reducing harm, risk and injury is our highest priority at St John. This applies just as much to our mental health as it does to physical health, which is why we've crafted a suite of essential courses that workplaces can use to develop skills to recognise and respond in a range of situations.
Choose from face to face, blended or self-paced courses to reduce risk and also improve productivity in the workplace.
In any one year, it is estimated that one in five Australian adults will experience a mental health condition. Despite considerable evidence that many mental health conditions are preventable, too many people in our community experience mental health conditions that affect their wellbeing and their ability to participate fully in everyday life. At some point in their life, approximately half of all Australians will experience a diagnosable mental illness (ABS 2018; AIHW 2018b).
Organisations also have a vital role to play in providing workplace environments that are mentally healthy. The workplace may contribute to the development or worsening of depression and anxiety conditions through factors such as organisational change, job strain, job dissatisfaction and traumatic events. On the other hand, for many employees, work may be a protective factor against the development of depression and anxiety conditions. Employers who create a thriving workplace fostering mental health for employees can expect a positive return on their investment in the order of 2.3 times, in the form of improved productivity, reduced absenteeism and presenteeism, and lower compensation claims.
