Last Friday, the 26th of January, Australia Day, marked a momentous occasion for St John Ambulance as we proudly watched some of our dedicated volunteers being honored for the invaluable services they selflessly provide to local communities. This day, synonymous with celebrating the spirit of the nation, turned into a platform to honor our heroes who make a significant difference through their commitment to saving lives.

Australia Day, a time for reflection and celebration, goes beyond barbecues and festivities; it is a day to acknowledge the everyday heroes among us. Local councils across the state took the opportunity to shine a spotlight on these exceptional individuals who dedicate their free time to offering crucial First Aid services to their fellow community members.

The heart of St John Ambulance lies in our volunteers, and on Australia Day, their commitment and tireless efforts were well-deserved brought to the forefront. These remarkable individuals include Rhys Webb, honored as Hindmarsh Shire Citizen of the Year, Ophelia Fernando, honored as the Moorabool Shire Young Citizen of the Year, and Dr Peter Leffler, honored as the Greater Shepparton Senior Citizen of the Year. St John volunteers are often ordinary citizens with an extraordinary sense of duty, exemplifying the true meaning of community service, devoting their time and skills to ensuring the safety and well-being of those around them.
