If It Happens At Home Campaign

In early July, we launched the impactful “If it Happens at Home” campaign, highlighting the vital importance of first aid skills. This initiative aims to empower everyone, especially within the safety of their own homes, with essential first aid knowledge.

The campaign gained momentum in late August with a special event in Melbourne, marking a first for St John Ambulance Victoria. We were thrilled to welcome Brooke Blurton as our campaign ambassador, helping to amplify our message to a wider audience.

Hosted in a cozy home setting, the event brought together a dynamic group of influential voices committed to spreading the word about the importance of first aid. Attendees engaged in discussions, brushed up on their first aid skills, and practiced life-saving CPR techniques. The primary subject was clear: accidents can occur at any moment, even in the comfort of our homes, affecting our loved ones and ourselves.

Our recent survey reveals a startling statistic: 2 in 3 Australians report that no one in their household has received first aid training. This highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and education. We are dedicated to bridging this gap and influencing positive change in our communities.

The “If it Happens at Home” campaign is a continuation of St John’s commitment to the Know First Aid initiative, encouraging all Australians to enrol in first aid training and embrace these crucial life skills.

Survey Findings Highlighting the Need for First Aid Knowledge:

  • 44% of adults in households with children under 18 reported witnessing a health or medical emergency in the past year.
  • 49% of adults in those households had to provide first aid during an emergency.
  • 68% of these adults expressed being very or somewhat concerned about emergencies occurring at home.

These findings show the importance of equipping ourselves with the knowledge to act confidently in emergencies.

As we continue to spread our message, we invite all Victorians to take part in this crucial conversation and prioritise first aid training for themselves and their families. Together, we can create safer homes and communities.
