Jordan: A Young Leader Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in First Aid

At just 15 years old, Jordan joined St John Ambulance Victoria as a Youth Member. She was a shy and introverted teenager who never imagined standing in front of large groups, let alone stepping into leadership roles. Fast forward to today, she proudly holds the title of National Youth Awards Officer for Australia, and recently she has been recognised in Victoria and promoted as Divisional Manager for the Monash Youth Division.
Her journey is one of growth, resilience, and commitment to making a difference. Reflecting on her leadership path, Jordan shares, "When I joined St John, I never imagined I’d be in a leadership position. But now I proudly stand tall, excited to share my passion for leadership, education, and personal development.
A Leader Recognised
After more than a year in an acting role, Jordan recently received her official Warrant of Appointment as Divisional Manager. For her, this moment was more than just a title, it was a milestone that symbolised the trust placed in her to guide, support, and inspire young members. "Leadership isn’t just a title, it’s about the impact we make, the growth we foster, and the opportunities we create."
Her passion for youth development and first aid education shines through in everything she does. The Monash Youth Division is filled with dedicated young volunteers, and Jordan is committed to creating a space where each of them can thrive. "I promise to strive every day to create an environment where every young person feels valued and instil the idea that they have the ability to make a difference in this world."
A Passion for Global Impact
Jordan’s leadership extends far beyond Australia. Recently, she took her dedication to first aid and healthcare overseas, spending a month volunteering in a rural hospital in Tanzania. This opportunity allowed her to combine her passion for medicine and travel while making a real impact in a different part of the world.
"I’ve always wanted to go to Africa, and why not mix my passion for medicine with my love for travel? So that’s exactly what I did."
Working in a small district hospital, Jordan and her fellow volunteers played a vital role in patient care. At times, they were the ones responsible for ensuring patients went home healthy, a responsibility she didn’t take lightly. "It was different from Australia in so many ways, but the experience reinforced my belief in the importance of first aid knowledge and access to healthcare."
Empowering Young Women in First Aid
Jordan is a firm believer that first aid is a skill that everyone should have, but she is especially passionate about encouraging young women to get involved. She highlights the fact that women have only been able to work in the ambulance service in Victoria for less than 40 years. "We’ve been given this opportunity, so why not take it?" she asks.
She encourages young women to take every opportunity they get and to never be afraid to put their hands up for leadership roles. "If I could teach one thing to a young girl, I would say: take every opportunity you get and don’t be scared to try new things."
Looking Ahead
Jordan’s journey from a shy youth member to a confident leader is an inspiration to young women everywhere. Her story is a reminder that leadership isn’t just about titles; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives. She is committed to celebrating the achievements of every member in her division and continuing to create an inclusive, supportive environment.
As she continues to lead, both locally and internationally, Jordan’s passion for first aid, leadership, and youth development remains stronger than ever. "Keep going strong. Follow your dreams. We are part of an incredible organisation, and we should use that to our advantage."
Jordan Berger is living proof that with determination and passion, young women can step up, take charge, and make a real difference in the world of first aid and beyond.
