R U OK? at Work Training: Build Confident Workplace Conversations
We all have days when things don't feel quite right. Sometimes, a simple conversation can make a significant difference.
That's why St John Ambulance Victoria is proud to deliver the R U OK? at Work - Conversations in Practice workshop, a practical, face-to-face training experience designed to help workplaces build stronger connections and support one another with confidence.
In just two hours, participants learn how to recognise when a colleague may be struggling and practise the skills needed to start a supportive conversation.
Building confidence through practice
Many people want to reach out when they notice someone isn't themselves but aren't always sure what to say or how to begin.
This workshop provides a safe and supportive environment to develop those skills through realistic workplace scenarios and guided activities. Participants learn and practice the four key steps of an R U OK? Conversation:
The focus is on empowering everyday people to support their colleagues through informal peer conversations, helping create workplace cultures where people feel connected, valued and supported.
Designed for every workplace
Whether you are a small business, corporate team, community organisation or not-for-profit, the workshop is suitable for any workplace looking to strengthen peer support and encourage meaningful conversations.
No prior mental health training or experience is required. All that's needed is a willingness to look out for the people around you.
A practical skill for work and beyond
While designed for workplace settings, many participants find the skills are just as valuable in everyday life.
"I left feeling more confident to recognise when somebody may need support and to start a conversation in a meaningful way. The skills are relevant both in the workplace and everyday life, and I would recommend the course to anyone wanting to better support the people around them." Says Eve, course participant
What participants receive
Participants who complete the workshop receive:
A Certificate of Completion
Course materials to support ongoing learning and application
It's important to note that this workshop does not qualify participants to provide counselling or clinical care. Instead, it focuses on building confidence in informal peer support conversations and knowing how to encourage someone to seek further help when needed.
