Transforming Victoria: St John Ambulance launches Strategic Plan to Save Lives and Reach 15 million Victorians

We are thrilled to announce that our new strategic plan has been officially revealed. This is a pivotal step towards enhancing our impact across the community. Designed with a clear mission to lead Victoria in first aid and medical responses, our plan aims to save an additional 500 lives annually, train 300,000 Victorians each year, and serve 15 million community members.

The official announcement unveiling the goals and initiatives took place on July 25th at the State Library in Melbourne, where we were pleased to welcome some of our key stakeholders, partners, and customers for a night of celebrations.

This strategic plan reflects our commitment to ensuring every Victorian has the lifesaving skills needed during emergencies. As Gordon Botwright, our CEO, powerfully puts it, "We want to impact Victoria, for good. And so, our Vision is of a future where the Victorian community is thriving because of our work and service.”

Central to our strategy is a determined set of initiatives aimed at broadening our reach and deepening our impact. Key initiatives include:

  • Our goal is to train 300,000 individuals annually, doubling our current outreach. This initiative will empower more Victorians to confidently administer first aid when it matters most.
  • We aim to extend our in-home care to 114,000 instances, a 26% increase, ensuring more individuals receive crucial care in their homes.
  • Pushing for mandatory defibrillator installations in public spaces to improve response times and save lives during cardiac emergencies.
  • Through targeted efforts, we aspire to boost the number of Victorians ready to provide first aid from 44% to 53%, raising a community that is both prepared and responsive in times of crisis.

In light of a concerning 20% rise in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests over the past five years, these initiatives are more crucial than ever. With only 5% of victims surviving, our determination to improve these statistics through education and accessibility is solid.

This launch serves as a call to action for all Victorians. Whether advocating for policy change or expanding personal knowledge in emergency response, each of us plays a vital role in saving lives and creating a safer, more resilient community.

Join us as we embark on this transformative journey. Together, we can envision a Victoria where every individual is equipped to respond effectively during health emergencies, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
